Published to mark International Youth Day – 12th August
Habari Wi-Fi Is Connecting Tanzania’s Youth to a Digital Future. This year’s International Youth Day brings attention to a simple reality: young people may grow up in very different circumstances, but many of their aspirations are shared. The theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlights the hopes young people hold for quality education, useful skills, meaningful work, the freedom to express their ideas, and the opportunity to build better futures.
Those aspirations do not always follow the same path. The opportunities available to a young person can be shaped by where they live, the resources around them, and their access to information. Increasingly, technology is part of that equation. A reliable internet connection can help student research and learn, give a young person access to digital skills, or help an aspiring entrepreneur reach customers and grow an idea.
For Habari Wi-Fi, this is where connectivity becomes part of the wider youth conversation, not as an end, but as a tool that can help young people learn, participate, develop their skills and pursue opportunities
Creating Space for Young Voices
Habari WIFI’s recent support for the Tanzania National Debate Championship (TNDC) 2026 in Arusha offers one example. Held from 6 to 11 June, the championship brought students together to develop their debating, public speaking and critical-thinking skills. Habari supported the event with broadband connectivity and sponsorship of the Public Speaking Awards. Habari WiFi’s TNDC story
Beyond supporting the event itself, connectivity gave students access to information they could use to research and develop their arguments. For Simon Lee, General Manager Tanzania and Chief Technology and Information Officer at Habari WiFi, this is part of what meaningful connectivity should achieve.
“We believe meaningful connectivity goes beyond providing internet access. It is about opening opportunities for people to learn, grow, collaborate, and unlock their potential.”
For Lee, the students’ participation demonstrated what can happen when young people have access to information and platforms where they can express their ideas.
Taking Digital Learning Beyond the Classroom
Habari has also recently engaged with young people through the Success Hands Tanzania Initiative’s TechMafunzo programme. The company hosted students and facilitators, giving the learners an opportunity to experience a technology workplace, interact with professionals, and ask questions about careers in the sector.
TechMafunzo introduces young people to practical areas including coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and entrepreneurship. For the students, meeting professionals working in technology offered a chance to connect what they learn with possible career paths and see how digital skills can be applied beyond the classroom.
Connecting Opportunity
Habari Wi-Fi provides connectivity in 12 regions in Tanzania, offering services including home Wi-Fi and corporate broadband, as well as technology services such as web development, domains, hosting and cloud solutions.
For a student, that connection may mean researching an assignment or taking an online course. For another young person, it may support a business idea, digital skills development, or access to opportunities beyond their immediate community. The needs are different, but the aspiration is similar: having the tools to learn, grow, and move closer to the future they want.
Keeping the Connection Open
International Youth Day is an opportunity to recognise these different journeys while reflecting on what young people have in common. Habari Wi-Fi is committed to continuing to provide reliable connectivity while supporting initiatives that give young people opportunities to learn, develop skills, express their ideas, and participate in the digital economy.
Through connectivity and partnerships that expose young people to technology and new possibilities, Habari Wi-Fi aims to play its part in making digital opportunities more accessible, regardless of where a young person starts.
Different contexts may shape different journeys, but the aspiration to learn, contribute, and build a better future is widely shared. Habari Wi-Fi is committed to keeping young people connected to the information, skills, and opportunities that can help them move forward.
