Fixed wireless broadband is a type of high-speed Internet / data access where connections to service providers use radio signals rather than cables.
Fixed wireless broadband utilizes transmission towers (ground / base stations) that communicate with each other and with the subscriber's location (customer premises). Subscribers install transceiver equipment on their building or communication tower to communicate with the fixed wireless ground stations. Transceivers consist of a small rectangular-shaped antenna attached to or integrated with radio transmitters.

ADSL is a form of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Internet service. DSL technology utilizes standard telephone copper wire to transmit data. ADSL provides greater bandwidth for downloads at the expense of upload speeds. ADSL is the most common form of DSL used in home networking, small and medium office networking.
ADSL is designed to support the typical user who frequently downloads large amounts of data from Web sites and P2P networks but uploads relatively less often. ADSL works by allocating a majority of the available copper line frequencies for communication of downstream traffic.

FTTB (Fiber to the Building/Business)
Fiber Optic Internet access offers access to the internet through a light which is sent via optical fibers. An electromagnetic carrier wave is formed by the light, which is altered to carry the information. Generally fiber optic delivers faster speeds at low latency and hence it is the preferred medium of transmission for gaming, VoIP, conferencing, and offsite data storage.
Habari is connected to both ESSaY and Seacom undersea cable and we are therefore investing heavily by upgrading our links to fiber optic to enable our clients to take full advantage of this enormous opportunity.
Some of our backbone links to base stations within the municipality are already on fiber. We are rolling out more fiber to all our wireless base stations and DSL distribution stations within a radius of 7 Km from our main PoP at AICC. This will improve access speeds for client, reduce latency and give clients opportunity to enjoy applications that require low latency and high speeds at lower cost.
Fiber optic supports very high throughputs and it's the ideal way of connecting when there is very high requirement for bandwidth and reliability. In addition to linking our base stations, we are rolling out fiber to select buildings in Arusha town and to businesses with such requirements.

HabariTalk is a high quality Voice over Internet telecommunications service (VoIP) by Habari and normally available to only Habari clients who have internet connections with us (except clients on satellite services).
The service can be configured to use either:
- An IP phone - looks like a standard desktop phone but supports internet connectivity. A client will have to buy the phone or modem that supports SIP. We provide them at a low price
- A Softphone - a software program for making telephone calls over the Internet using a general purpose computer, rather than using dedicated hardware. The software is usually free.
- A standard mobile smart phone that supports SIP (a Voice over Internet Protocol

HabariPlus allows you to exceed the bandwidth speed limit that you are paying for (for FREE) as long as your usage during the day and in the month is under a specified volume limit. Once you have exceed the daily or monthly threshold, you are returned to the default service you are paying for (which is lower) and an automated email is sent to you to serve as a notification so you are aware of the changes.
The service has worked tremendously well for most users. Users do not need to pay in order to be put into this service.
